The Food Science and Nutrition Department in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking a full-time, academic year, tenure-track assistant/associate professor in Nutrition beginning January 2020 or September 2020. Applicants must hold a PhD in Nutrition or closely related field and RD/RDN credentials. Expertise in clinical human nutrition is required.
Candidates must have strong interest in and commitment to teaching and working with students of different cultural backgrounds. The candidate's primary teaching contribution will be in medical nutrition therapy; other teaching responsibilities will be in undergraduate and graduate courses that may include, but are not limited to lifespan nutrition, introductory human nutrition and additional nutrition courses as needed by the department. Expectation is to participate in the Masters in Nutrition program.
The candidate is expected to actively participate in scholarly activities such as research, publishing and grant writing as part of collaborations that are both intra- and inter-departmental as well as with other colleges and universities. Scholarly activities should be focused on inclusion of undergraduate and graduate students.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct research on the prevention and treatment of diet-related chronic diseases with emphasis on individuals from diverse social, socio-economic and/or ethnic backgrounds.
Additional expectations include supervision of graduate students, team teaching assignments, on-line courses and teaching graduate level courses and/or in a Master of Professional Studies or certificate program. Service activities will include participation on department, college, and university committees and instructionally related activities.
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

The department hosts a dynamic and innovative Nutrition program that encourages national as well as international perspectives on teaching and research. The Nutrition curriculum includes two concentrations: Applied Nutrition and Nutrition Science. The Applied Nutrition concentration is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Food Science program offers an Institute of Food Technologists-approved curriculum.

Earned doctorate in Human Nutrition or closely related field; RD/RDN credential; two years full-time clinical nutrition experience as RD in in-patient or out-patient setting or equivalent.
Candidates must be committed to quality undergraduate education and are expected to develop and maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students.
Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
University-level teaching experience desirable. Experience with intervention-based studies is advantageous. Evidence of successful academic research, external funding and publication history is advantageous. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.
